Where I've applied it
Vice President Welfare
- Noticed recurring gaps in how casework and communication reached students, redesigned the process end to end, and kept 33,000+ students better informed and supported.
- Sat on University Council and formal complaint panels, applied constitutional and legal compliance to every decision, and helped the Union secure over £24m in additional funding.
- Represented the Union on a cross-cultural exchange to China, building employer relationships to open recruitment and student project opportunities.
Finance Service Intern
- Owned customer financing cases end to end, applied a risk-based and empathetic approach to each one, and achieved a 90%+ approval rate while keeping defaults below 4%.
- Managed relationships with multiple car dealerships to source loan files, resolving documentation queries proactively to keep a steady, compliant pipeline moving.
- Compared and processed quotations across multiple external insurance providers, translating technical policy terms into plain language so customers could choose confidently.
- Maintained accurate case records and followed up consistently, tracking every case through to full resolution rather than leaving it open-ended.
Credit Analyst Intern
- Reviewed financial statements across 200+ SME and wholesale banking cases, applied a structured six-part credit appraisal framework covering financial, operational and market risk, and cut delinquency risk by 8%.
- Produced an independent credit appraisal report, analysing financial ratios and cash flow data to support audit-ready conclusions signed off by a senior mentor.
- Supported regulatory reporting and portfolio monitoring on loans worth £1.9m, keeping records audit-ready by cross-checking documentation against compliance requirements.

- Noticed the society had no external backing, built new sponsor relationships from scratch, and secured over £2,000 in funding while growing membership by 35% to 500+.
- Doubled social media engagement by building a consistent content and outreach strategy from scratch.
- Planned and hosted events end to end, managing budgets, logistics and guest experience to build a genuinely engaged community.

Identified a £1 to £2 loss ratio on client spend through data analysis, presenting findings and recommendations directly to the client in a live Q&A. Worked in a small team to challenge assumptions and build evidence-based recommendations from raw data rather than anecdotal input.

Conducted due diligence on 15+ early-stage ventures, evaluating business models, market sizing and competitor research before presenting recommendations to committee. Built investment evaluation frameworks using IRR, payback period and social impact KPIs.

Elected with 400+ votes to the Board of Trustees of a £10m+ charity, approving budgets, governance policies and risk registers. Monitored the Union's work against its agreed strategy, reviewing performance updates and flagging concerns for board discussion.

Recruited and trained 20+ fellow ambassadors, leading National Student Survey participation campaigns. Represented the university at recruitment and induction events, engaging prospective students confidently across in-person and digital channels.

Payment plan benchmarking report
Researched comparator policy across Russell Group and London institutions to identify where late-fee deadlines were creating unnecessary financial risk for students.
Staff Travel Policy
Built a new policy from scratch, giving colleagues a clear, consistent process for university-related travel.
Comms feedback loop
Redesigned how the Union communicated with students, making updates faster, clearer and more transparent.
Santander partnership
Negotiated budget-friendly banking offers and discounts, easing everyday costs for the whole student body.
Co-op on campus
Took a board-level decision alongside fellow Trustees to bring an affordable grocery option onto campus.
Cost-of-living campaign
Secured external charity funding to distribute free meals on campus, and personally carried out the risk assessment to get it delivered safely.

Representing Queen Mary in China
I joined a delegation of Russell Group universities on a cultural and strategic exchange to China. Alongside genuine cultural exchange, the trip meant building real relationships with employers, opening the door to recruitment and student project opportunities in the Chinese market for future cohorts.
We visited Peking University to compare academic cycles and best practice with our own, engaged with the Department for Education in Zunyi, and toured AI parks and student-led AI startups, seeing first-hand how universities there are backing the next generation of founders.

Cooking
Genuine therapy after a long day, if I've had a hectic one, you'll probably find me in the kitchen. My friends say the compliments are well earned.
Travel
Ten countries and counting. I like arriving somewhere with no fixed plan and figuring it out as I go.
Cricket
Vice-Captain of my school cricket team. Still the sport I'd choose to play over almost anything else.
